Does the lens have the small "socket" that the cameras screw drive focus motor drive "slot" fits into? If no then it has to be HSM. I would have thought any recent Sigma lens would be HSM…

I'd say skip it, then use that $50 toward a set of pro-optic extension tubes so you can use the 70-300 for macro work. If you could get the chance to try before buying though….can't hurt to give the lens a shot. …
